How to Turn Your Content Into an Automated Weapon

How to Turn Your Content Into an Automated Weapon

It can be cutthroat out there! I’ve seen the worst of startups and business…it’s like war. And with talks heating up about North Korea and how their weapons are such a threat, why not use the same strategies to punch above your weight and get your own content trending? Here are five steps you can use to blow the competition away with content.

1. Set your target

Target accuracy is a critical factor for a missile’s effectiveness. In order for the missile to land in the right place at the right time, a clear target must be identified.

Where do you want your content to land? It’s important to really understand who your audience is and where they are located- are they on social media, at a tradeshow, in search mode? How far along are they in the customer journey?

Plan and deliver your content with a clear view of your target audience in mind for maximum impact.

2. Launch your content

Missiles may be launched from submarines, surface ships, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, unmanned naval mines and naval fortresses. They can also be used in conjunction with other weapons for greater effect.

Your content can also be a launched from a variety of platforms: social media, blogs, websites, emailers and more. And you can combine it with other tactics to amplify its reach, like paid advertising.

How does your target audience prefer to receive content? What platforms can help increase your content’s reach?

3. Let it calibrate

A missile guidance system is used to help remotely guide the missile to its destination. The guidance system is constantly taking in feedback to keep calibrating the missile in the right direction. When the missile goes off course, the guidance system automatically corrects it. As more data is collected, the aim becomes more accurate increasing the “Single Shot Kill Probability.”

Once your content strategy is in place, calibration happens more or less automatically – some content will prove to be high converting while some will miss the mark…and that’s okay. Content that doesn’t work provides helpful information about what direction not to go in so you can focus your efforts on content that moves your prospects in the right direction.

Your content strategy is essentially your guidance system which, based on data and analytics, helps you hone your content to increase your “Conversion Probability.”

4. Defeat your enemies

For many nations, missiles provide a powerful weapon for a very economical price and can even help level the field against opponents who are clearly superior in other areas of military technology (cough cough, North Korea). This is because missiles are still difficult to defeat even with newer air defense systems that aim to intercept them.

A nimble marketer who may not have an enterprise budget can still make a big impact with targeted content. This is especially true if you can see an opportunity to strike in a niche area before others do. Larger competitors will have a hard time trying to win in the rankings even when they outspend you. The damage has been done.

A savvy marketer has a potent opportunity to create a bank of niche content that will be indexed and keep on delivering clicks.

5. Get your payload

With superior mobility, tactical missiles can quickly respond to developments on the battlefield to carry heavy payloads deep behind enemy lines.

Today, battles for customers are truly won and lost with content. After all, with the availability with so much content online today, approximately 57% of purchase decisions are won before a customer even calls a supplier.” (CEB).

If you can identify your target and their need, the right content at the right time can help you win deals against your competition and ultimately cash in.
